The Sustainability Advisory Board's annual retreat at the "DOCK for Change" focussed on current information, impulses and inspiration, exchange and discussion.
The morning was dedicated in particular to the question of how the University of Vienna wants to make sustainability visible both internally and externally. Group work was used to discuss which values (including transparency, impact, academic standards) should underpin the communication strategy and what image of the future could characterise the university by 2031.
A highlight was the keynote speech by Sebastian Kahlert (ETH Zurich), who provided insights into the "net zero" programme and the governance and communication approaches of ETH.
In the afternoon, various projects were presented along the focus areas of the sustainability strategy: from mobility concepts and compensation projects to climate & environment in teaching and biodiversity. The aim was to strengthen the strategic context and recognise synergies for the implementation of the climate neutrality roadmap.
The retreat showed that the University of Vienna has many committed initiatives and bright minds working together on a sustainable future. The results will be incorporated into the further development of the sustainability strategy and communication planning.
